Rikshospitalet in Norway chooses radiology information system from Sectra

The IT and medical technology company Sectra has received an order for delivery of it's radiology information system (RIS) to Rikshospitalet in Oslo. The value of the order amounts to approximately SEK 5 million.

Rikshospitalet already uses Sectra's system for handling and archiving radiology images, PACS, and installation of the new radiology information system will start at the beginning of 2005.

"We have a large number of clinical specialties and the choice of Sectra's information system is a part of our strategy for making the workflow for clinical information more efficient. Through tighter integration between RIS and PACS, the workflow both within, and to and from, the radiology department will be streamlined. This entails, among other things, that we will more quickly provide important medical information to our clinics," says Dr. Andreas Abildgaard at Rikshospitalet.

Rikshospitalet is a university hospital with a very high degree of specialization and which is often consulted by other hospitals for specialist opinions. The hospital's radiology department performs approximately 80,000 radiology examinations yearly and each examination includes between 10 and 1,000 images. By integrating referrals, patient data and images, a more efficient workflow is created. The referring doctor more quickly receives referral responses and images, which contributes to more efficient and improved healthcare.

"By providing a complete solution for RIS and PACS that is integrated with the hospital's other IT systems, we can contribute to further streamlining the workflow and shortening waiting times at Rikshospitalet," says Åge Sjåfjell, President for Sectra Norge AS.
