The IT and medical technology company Sectra has received an order from Värmland County Council in Sweden for the digital mammography system, Sectra MicroDose Mammography. The order value amounts to approximately SEK 8 million.
This transaction means that the County Council will be committed to digital mammography that is safer for patients. Sectra's mammography system provides the lowest radiation dose in the international market. This is an important factor in mammography screening, where large numbers of healthy women are examined.
"In the modernization of our mammography operations, we selected Sectra as the supplier because the company offers a safe, ergonomic and efficient total solution, with a well-conceived workflow," says Annette Andersson, Head of the radiology operations at Värmland County Council.
Sectra will provide a complete digital mammography system that permits radiologists to perform their work more efficiently and safely without exposing women to a higher radiation dose than necessary. The system will be used at the Central Hospital in Karlstad.
"We have a long-term and close cooperation with Värmland County Council. The council is committed to advanced and safe healthcare for women and this order shows that our system corresponds to their high demands," says Herbert Grill, sales and marketing manager for mammography at Sectra Skandinavien AB.
Breast cancer is one of the most frequent illnesses among women. Early detection of breast cancer saves lives and the aim of mammography screening is to detect breast cancer at an early stage when treatment can be most effective. Värmland County Council offers every woman between 50-69 years of age the possibility to participate in a mammography screening program. More than 20,000 women in the region attend a screening examination every other year to have any breast cancer detected in time.
Sectra has developed Sectra MicroDose Mammography, a mammography system dedicated to improving women's health. The system is an easy-to-use digital system that supports the entire workflow, from examination to documented diagnosis. The system provides the lowest radiation dose on the market, unsurpassed throughput, customized workflow and outstanding ergonomics. For the patients this means safe, stress-free and quick examinations.
Sectra has delivered and installed mammography systems in such countries as Sweden, Germany, Ireland and the United Kingdom. In the US, FDA (Food and Drug Administration) trials are in process
