Västra Nyland Hospital in Ekenäs, Finland, performs approximately 25 000 radiology exams per year.
The planning for digitalization started in 1998, and in September 2000 the contract was signed for Sectra PACS and Commit RIS. The hospital has Sectra's newest generation of PACS, including special software for orthopedists with tools for digital prosthesis fitting. Distribution of images to other clinics is made possible via Sectra's web-solution WISE/web.
In June 2001 the radiology department became paper-free and is planning to go film-free by September 2001. By then, the department will also be distributing images to the other hospitals in the Nyland-district, Centralhospital and Hyvinge Hospital.
"Efficiency gains are very important for us, since it is difficult to recruit qualified personnel. We see digitization as a mean for both time and cost-savings" says Barbro Viljanen, senior radiologist at Västra Nyland Hospital.
